01 / ABOUT THE PLACE

About this place

Whether you’re after plenty of vegetables or a drink with more than a single dish, Nerima YaoyaBal’s menu centres on vegetables while leaving room for different kinds of meals. A veg-meal bowl is one option for a more substantial dinner. One diner who ordered the Singapore chicken veg-meal described a bowl layered with multigrain rice, vegetables, chicken and a soft-cooked egg; the sauce, they said, made it easy to keep eating. They also added a crab cream croquette, a way to round out a vegetable-led meal with another dish. The menu includes veg-meal bowls such as taco rice, loco moco and crab croquette. Choose a bowl that puts vegetables first, or go for a heartier combination with a hamburger steak or croquette. There are several ways to make it your own.

For a meal built around small plates, the beef-tongue sukiyaki yukhoe with garland chrysanthemum and the Thai-style meat-stuffed fresh green pepper stand out. A diner who likes garland chrysanthemum enjoyed the beef-tongue yukhoe, as well as the fresh pepper. These dishes offer a way to pair vegetable-led eating with a plate that includes meat. Other à la carte choices include ajillo with long onion and mentaiko purée, or mushrooms and shell-on sweet shrimp; baguette can be ordered separately. One diner who had the course menu recalled the corn fritters and a dish combining smoked iburigakko pickles with cream cheese as particular highlights. The menu’s range of vegetables and other dishes works well for sharing on a course, or for putting together a meal from small plates.

Solo diners can also make a meal of smaller portions. The mini menu includes salad, fresh peppers stuffed with meat, crab cream croquettes, pizza and lava pasta—handy for anyone who wants to try a few things. The restaurant’s information says it is suited to solo dining, and counter seating is available. Drinks listed include Heartland beer, bio wine and sparkling wine, as well as sours and non-alcoholic choices. Order a drink with a meal, or opt for a course with free-flow drinks for dinner with friends. The restaurant also describes itself as suitable for groups.
